Hyde Park, located in South Tampa, is comprised of three distinct districts: South Howard Ave (aka. “SoHo”), Old Hyde Park, and Hyde Park Village. The Hyde Park neighborhood extends from the mouth of the Hillsborough River down the east side of the Interbay Peninsula; specifically spaning from Hillsborough bay, north to Kennedy Blvd, west to Armenia Ave, and south to Bayshore Blvd. This quaint historic neighborhood includes something for everyone, from delicious restaurants to great shopping, and wonderful entertainment.
Hyde Park’s history dates back to the 1880’s as when the first bridge across the Hillsborough River was built by the historic Tampa figurehead, railroad financier Henry B. Plant. Shortly thereafter, in 1882, James Watrous started this first western Tampa suburb and sparked Hyde Park residential growth when he built the first Hyde Park home located at 1307 Morrison Ave. To support the large continued Hyde Park growth throughout the late 1880’s a street car line was put in connecting Swann and Rome Ave, of which we still enjoy the benefits of these much wider roads today!
Today, Hyde Park is home to many bars, restaurants, shopping, parks, entertainment, and beautiful homes. The SoHo district includes many of Tampa’s top rated night clubs, boutiques, and bars, as well as a world-wide recognize steakhouse! Just a short distance away from SoHo is the Old Hyde Park Village, which consists of condominiums surrounded by upscale shopping, dining, and cinemas. Old Hyde Park is primarily residential and is located directly southeast of Old Hyde Park Village, situated between Watrous, Swann and Bayshore.
All Hyde Park neighborhoods are just a quick jaunt to Bayshore Boulevard where the residents can enjoy a long walk, run, or bike ride along the water on the longest continuous sidewalk in the World! Also, Hyde Park is extremely convenient to other parts of Tampa. This area of the city is just a short drive to downtown, all major Tampa highways, and the Westshore district. For many reasons, Hyde Park is one of the most sought after and enjoyed areas of Tampa Bay.
